“There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man.”

I love to travel, but I like being home too.
One of the things I love about home is my beautiful horse, “Bear.”
“Bear” is a 10-year-old Hanoverian gelding and a dream come true. I’d been riding other people’s horses for 35 years before this four-legged bundle of joy trotted into my life.
And it was meant to be. I am a writer. He came with the registered name “Shakespeare.” He has inspired me in so many ways and been the catalyst for a lot of important life lessons and positive personal changes. Bear is a formidable teacher, a gentle companion, a comic entertainer, endearingly social with a desire to be everyone’s friend and, as you can see, is easy on the eyes.
One of the ways I have been inspired is to create a character — Shakespeare “The Equine” — exhalted poet, muse, dressage horse and all round great guy. You can find out more about him and read his sonnets and other musings at http://www.poetspaddock.com.
I often take my camera to the barn and Bear is a willing subject. This photo was taken in early Fall. His paddock buddy in the background is Sam.
