I’ve always loved horses, and have ridden (lesson horses) most of my life. It wasn’t until I was in my early 40s that a lifelong dream of having one to call my own finally came true.
Enter Shakespeare, aka Bear Β — a 17-hand, dark bay, German-bred Hanoverian who cantered into my life a little more than six years ago meeting, and exceeding, the dream.
And he’s all mine.
(Although honestly, I get the feeling sometimes that he’s trained me to be all his … ) π
I am greatly blessed …

I think your last words may turn out to be the most accurate – that you are in fact all his, rather than vice versa. Even so, in my belief we actually own nothing in our time on this earth. We enjoy temporary custody of things while we’re here, and we have responsibility for such critters and creatures as enter our lives from time to time. What is most important is how we celebrate those responsibilities and perform in them. Enjoyment is key, and by the sound of it in that regard you’re right on target.

I have always felt that we are, indeed, the stewards of the critters who inhabit our lives. And what a great responsibility this is. Antoine de Saint Exupery said that “we are forever responsible for the things that we tame.” I couldn’t agree more … π
