Following a frigid week of brutal sub-zero temperatures in central Ontario, we’re experiencing a late January, one-day, mega-thaw.
It began yesterday with temps hovering around zero and bouts of freezing rain. Today we’ll reach 10C with rain all day — last week’s snow a seeming distant memory.
I can think of lots of reasons why this temperature fluctuation isn’t necessarily a good thing, however suffice to say that while it isn’t the friendliest collie-walking weather it happily captures the gentle imagination of one of our safely sequestered felines.
Yesterday, 9-month-old JJ enjoyed a few moments mesmerized by the rain drops as they pooled and poured down the kitchen window. His fascination so mesmerized me that I captured it.
And, as one thing leads to another, I am now reminded of a short poem I conjured some years ago on a somewhat similar day when I caught myself staring out the window — rainspotting.
No … no one took my picture … 😉
Enjoy!

Rainspotting
Relentless rain —
As thy roving, wondering
Droplets drip and dance
Down my weather-beaten pane,
I muse at how so
Fresh you fall
And the short time you remain.
