Time to engage in a little shameless self-promotion …
I’m thrilled to announce that six equestrian-themed images from my series Barn Mavens will be on display at the Urban Gallery, one of 200 official venues in Toronto, during the ScotiaBank CONTACT Photography Festival next month.
The theme of this exhibit is Women at Work, and in my showcase I’m pleased to feature two of the knowledgeable and hardworking horsewomen of Santerre Show Stables in Mono, Ontario.
It is such an honour to have my work presented, along with three other talented photographers, at this exhibit during this international event.
If you’re in the area feel free to stop by and soak up some creativity.

Flashback Friday …
Shakespeare had just been put outside, freshly bathed and sprayed with a specially formulated natural fly repellent, when he decided my efforts were just not good enough. Within moments of being released, and to my dismay, he dropped to the ground at his favourite rolling spot and gave himself a delicious dirt bath, creating his own no fly zone.
Look closely and you’ll see a toothy grin and an expression that seems to say, “Don’t worry, mom, I got this.”
I wasn’t smiling … or was I? (Hmmmmmm …. )

This moment was captured about 10 years ago.
My horse Bear (left), recently and suddenly passed away due to severe colic. We journeyed almost 12 years together. Photo memories, like this, help me to remember what a cheeky, happy boy he was.
I miss him terribly.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Repurpose
The big, old century cow barn (background), dating back to 1850 or so and the focal point of our 100-acre farm, was repurposed 20 years ago for equestrian use. The ceiling was raised and the barn widened to accommodate a horse breeding operation, and an addition was built, including 12 more stalls, common areas and an indoor arena.
We purchased the property 18 months ago for my emerging Facilitated Equine Experiential Learning (FEEL) practice, repurposing this beautiful farm as a place of sanctuary where people can escape their worldly cares and heal their broken hearts in the company of horses.
The journey continues …
