I don’t feature my artwork often, but for a change of pace I thought I’d do a shout out to a veil painting I undertook as a meditative, healing exercise a few years ago.
The cool thing about veil painting is that whatever images appear do so as part of the meditative process. Nothing is pre-conceived; all is free flowing.
I call this work Wise Old Equus because, to my eyes at least, the exuberance of a playful, bucking horse is balanced by the wisdom of a centred, perching owl.
It reminds me to stay centred in the midst of the ups and downs of life.
It is a meditation so, if you have the time and inclination, please spend a moment with the painting and allow it to speak to you.
Please feel free to leave a comment on what you see.

It’s Valentine’s Day and I thought I’d take a brief detour from my usual photography and share a veil painting I created a few years ago that, in my eyes and heart at least, depicts love.
At first glance it looks like a mess of cool colours. However, if you sit with it for a moment, meditate on its free-form and experience the play of light and colour against each other, you might find a little meaning for yourself.
Because veil painting is a meditative art form there can be no preconceived notion of the final result. It’s very much a go-with-the-flow exercise which puts the artist in the moment and precipitates healing at the soul level. What springs from the canvas is always a surprise.
This particular painting evolved into something I call “Wise Old Equus.”
As I meditate on its form I am aware of the playful nature of a horse balanced by the wisdom of an owl. At the heart of their interaction is, interestingly enough, the outline of a healthy, pink heart.
The colours, the movement, the message of this, a favourite veil painting from my collection, is full of love, as I see it, and makes me smile.
It was created from my heart and is my gift to you this Valentine’s Day.
Thanks for visiting and indulging in a detour off the beaten path …
